Runners gathered across South Africa to pay tribute to Elizabeth Moselakgomo, affectionately known as “Tsontso,” after her body was discovered east of Johannesburg. She is the ninth woman found murdered in the Kempton Park area since July.
The jogger disappeared during a routine run, prompting the running community to organize a memorial event in Centurion. Participants honored her memory while demanding the right to exercise freely and safely. “This is for her—we just want to live and go running and come back home without having to think that it may be one of us,” said participant Nonhle Mpohlo.
In Cape Town, residents held a vigil commemorating the victims and urging government action. In response, police have established a dedicated task team to investigate the killings and have advised women in Kempton Park to avoid walking or running alone, particularly in isolated areas.
