Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv Kill at Least Eight in Coordinated Overnight Attack

Ukrainian authorities report that a wave of overnight Russian missile strikes has killed at least eight people in the capital Kyiv and the surrounding region.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), apartment blocks, warehouses, a children’s hospital, and a school were hit in the “massive attack” on Thursday. At least 33 people were injured in the strikes.

Emergency authorities are scrambling to rescue anyone trapped beneath the rubble of demolished buildings, with rescue crews already pulling two survivors from the debris.

Meanwhile, Romania reported that a drone crossed into its territory near the northern border with Ukraine, triggering an air alert siren.

In the early hours of Thursday, “a drone entered Romanian national airspace, approximately 13 kilometres east of the city of Galați,” the Romanian defence ministry stated in a release.

The drone subsequently crashed into an uninhabited area, causing a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

“No casualties or material damage were reported,” the ministry added, noting that the initial alert had since been lifted.

The Polish military also announced that it had initiated “defensive air operations” to safeguard its airspace, as the country shares a border with Ukraine in the south-east.
