Aryna Sabalenka defeats Taylor Townsend, setting up a semifinal clash with either Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova or Marta Kostyuk.

After overcoming early service issues, top‑seed Aryna Sabalenka defeated Taylor Townsend on Sunday, securing a place in the US Open quarterfinals in New York.

Townsend broke Sabalenka three times during the champion’s opening four service games, but Sabalenka steadied her game, regained confidence and clinched a 6‑4, 6‑3 victory.

“I was simply focusing on each ball and each point,” Sabalenka explained. “I’m pleased to have turned the match around in the second set.”

This encounter marked the first meeting between Sabalenka and Townsend, who initially challenged her in the first set before losing rhythm. Sabalenka will now meet either Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova or Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals.

“I’m delighted to have overcome such a tough opponent,” Sabalenka said. “She is an extraordinary player, with strong net play and a fearless return style. Her focus was evident, making the match very demanding.”
