The Saints, like every team, monitor the remarks made by their upcoming opponents.
Earlier this week, Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders made disparaging remarks about the New Orleans defense, and the Saints’ defense heard them loud and clear.
“We’re going to come in with a chip on our shoulder, for sure,” Saints defensive end Carl Granderson said Friday. “You know, they have been chirping a little bit. We heard what the quarterback … said. So we will come in hot and ready to play… It will be a good game, for sure. We will come out with the win.”
Asked by reporters on Wednesday whether he had the opportunity to study the Saints’ defense and describe what he observed, Sanders offered a broad smile.
“Yeah, I’ve seen a lot,” Sanders said. “When I smile, that speaks volumes. I’m maturing. I’m maturing. Rather than giving a decent answer, I now prefer to smile whenever a question arises.”
A more appropriate approach for Sanders would have been to maintain a poker‑face demeanor and deliver an answer that did nothing to draw the Saints’ defense’s attention.
Thus, while he claims to be maturing, true maturity would involve offering a bland, complimentary response that acknowledges the Saints and underscores the difficulty of defeating them.
Instead, a Browns player has given the upcoming opponent — for the second consecutive week — a bit more motivation.
