Saints Name Nine Captains for 2026, Including Shough and Jordan

The New Orleans Saints have officially named their 2026 captaincy roster, which naturally features the club’s young starting quarterback.

Tyler Shough is among the nine designated leaders as he embarks on his first full season as the team’s starter.

Selected with the No. 40 overall pick last year, Shough appeared in 11 games and made nine starts during his rookie campaign, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

His strong debut earned him a runner-up finish in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, trailing only Panthers receiver Tetairoa McMillan.

Additionally, defensive end Cameron Jordan has been named a Saints captain for the 12th time as he enters his 16th professional season with the club.

Offensive lineman Erik McCoy, safety Justin Reid, and long snapper Zach Wood remain the team’s returning captains.

Guard David Edwards, linebackers Kaden Elliss and Chris Rumph II, and edge rusher Chase Young are earning their first Saints captaincy. However, Elliss and Young previously held captain roles with other teams.

New Orleans will begin its season on the road against Detroit on Sunday.
