After returning from the World Cup, Saka rejoined the Arsenal squad following a short break and made his first appearance of the season in the Community Shield, coming on as the Gunners led Manchester City 3-0.
His quick acceleration and sharpness, which had been missing toward the end of the previous season, were evident in that cameo, helping the team secure the victory.
Following a standout performance against Coventry in the season’s opening Premier League match, he indicated that after limited playing time at the World Cup and a summer break, he felt back to his best.
“I trained extensively to be prepared for the start of the season and to contribute to the team as I know I can,” Saka said in the mixed zone after the win.
“The key was balancing my time off and avoiding an extended break; I took seven days off before resuming training.”
“I’ve been putting in a great deal of work and feel in excellent shape, aiming to be at the peak of my physical condition.”
His drive appears to stem from frustration over England’s failure to achieve their World Cup objective, prompting him to return to training ahead of schedule.
“The World Cup did not go as I had hoped, for both myself and the team,” he said.
“I felt eager after the World Cup and the season’s conclusion; I was eager for the new season.”
