Sami Zayn is playfully referencing CM Punk’s legacy after reclaiming the WWE Championship in a memorable fashion.
Zayn captured the title from Punk during last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, marking the start of his second reign as champion. Punk had previously defeated Zayn for the championship back in July.
In a social media post following his victory, Zayn shared a image of the WWE Championship displayed inside his refrigerator, echoing one of Punk’s most recognizable championship celebration photos.
This references Punk’s famous moment after leaving WWE Money In The Bank 2011 as WWE Champion, when he famously posted a photo of the title inside his own refrigerator.
Over 15 years later, Zayn has put his own spin on the iconic image after winning the championship back from Punk.
