In Ranchi, Sanju Samson erupted from recent form troubles, hammering a rapid half‑century against the West Indies during the second T20I on Friday.
He reached 50 in just 21 deliveries, equalling Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest Indian half‑century against the West Indies in T20Is, and his aggressive knock steadied India after an early setback.
Samson finally fell for 82 off 41 balls, striking nine fours and four sixes at a striking 200.00 strike rate, laying a solid base for India’s aggressive batting strategy.
When asked how this performance differed from his last four outings, Samson said his preparation and mindset had stayed consistent.
“As a professional cricketer representing India, you definitely take care of the professional side of the game. You do your preparation, you practice, you train, you do everything possible in your hands,” Samson explained.
Samson recognized the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, noting that individual performances aren’t always within one’s control. Nonetheless, he emphasized his duty to provide India with a strong start rather than altering his approach after a few low scores.
“My job is simply to give a great start for my country, and I strive to do that, accepting responsibility whenever I get out,” he added.
After managing only 11 runs in the series opener at Lucknow, Samson’s 82‑run innings in Ranchi took on added significance. Instead of letting that dismissal affect his confidence, he reverted to his aggressive batting approach.
India posted a commanding 249 runs after opting to bat first in Ranchi, yet they were unable to contain the chase as Shai Hope’s side overhauled the target, leaving the series level.
