Samsung has integrated USDC, Circle’s dollar-backed stablecoin, into its mobile platform to streamline cross-border money transfers for Galaxy smartphone users. The feature leverages the growing popularity of stablecoins in international transactions, which the International Monetary Fund notes has surged this year due to significantly lower processing costs compared to traditional remittance methods.
Galaxy device owners can now send USDC directly to compatible cryptocurrency wallets overseas or to eligible bank accounts across more than 60 countries, with funds automatically converted to local currencies upon receipt. While Samsung does not charge fees for USDC transfers to external wallets, individual wallet providers or exchanges may apply their own transaction fees.
The service prioritizes user convenience by eliminating typical cryptocurrency setup barriers. Transfers are funded through built-in on-ramps and off-ramps, and security is enhanced through biometric authentication on registered Galaxy devices. This design allows users to conduct stablecoin transactions without needing extensive technical knowledge of blockchain systems.
This rollout represents Samsung’s transition from exploring stablecoin capabilities to delivering consumer-focused financial tools. Following its August announcement about integrating stablecoin savings and payment features across hundreds of millions of Galaxy phones, the company is positioning itself as a major gateway for digital dollar adoption. The U.S. launch marks Samsung’s first large-scale implementation of these capabilities.
The integration provides Samsung with a powerful distribution network that has traditionally challenged cryptocurrency companies to establish independently. By embedding stablecoin functionality within Samsung’s widely-used native payment applications, the company enables practical remittance use cases where recipients can receive local currency in their bank accounts without ever needing to create or manage a cryptocurrency wallet themselves.
