San Antonio Mayor Urges Cancellation of Kanye West’s July 4th Concert at Alamodome
Weeks prior, Florida Senator Rick Scott pushed for cancellations of Kanye West’s upcoming shows at Raymond James Stadium, prompting local advocacy groups to express concern.
The mayor’s public appeal focuses on maintaining public safety and centering community values during a culturally significant holiday. San Antonio Gina Ortiz Jones advocates for the concert to be held elsewhere, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect in public events.
Jones highlighted West’s past incidents of antisemitism and hate speech, urging officials to prioritize these principles before allowing major performances in city-owned facilities. The debate continues as concerts proceed in various locations across the state and beyond.
I support canceling the @kanyewest concert.
Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.
