Sara Netanyahu Suggests Yair Golan May Have Had Advance Knowledge of Oct. 7 Attack

Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed in a Channel 14 interview on Monday that Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, may have known about the Oct. 7 assault beforehand, reviving unfounded betrayal rumors.

“If you’re a senior officer who claims to have fought on Oct. 7, you must have been on the ground early, already dressed and ready,” Netanyahu said during the interview. “At that hour, when most people—including the prime minister—were still unaware, you were already prepared.”

“In general, why would the prime minister need to be told that a war has begun? Why inform him at all?” she asked sarcastically.

When pressed on the betrayal allegations, Netanyahu gave an ambiguous reply: “I don’t want to discuss it. I don’t know. Let a genuine investigative committee be formed.”

The Democrats Party issued a statement on X/Twitter, saying, “We strongly condemn Sara Netanyahu’s slanderous and false remarks made on Channel 14 this evening. Promoting conspiracy theories against Maj.-Gen. Yair Golan and besmirching his bravery on Oct. 7 crosses a red line verging on madness. While Netanyahu hurried to apply makeup and seek excuses, Golan moved forward and saved lives. The facts remain unchanged, regardless of how the Netanyahu family and Channel 14 attempt to reinterpret them.”

Democrats MK Gilad Kariv also reacted to Netanyahu’s interview, stating that after the upcoming election the party intends to expel “this corrupt and rotten couple” from the Prime Minister’s Office.

“It appears even Sara Netanyahu acknowledges that Yair Golan went out to rescue people from the inferno, while her ineffective, spineless husband fumbles on the phone and then vanishes for a few hours to apply makeup,” he said.

Kariv also noted that Sara Netanyahu enjoys no legal immunity, and that the Democrats’ lawyers may start preparing a defamation suit against her.

Blue and White party chairman Benny Gantz also voiced opposition to Netanyahu’s remarks.

“Yair Golan is a brave warrior who has fought and risked his life for Israel for decades, including on Oct. 7,” he wrote.

“Any attempt to link him to treason is not only false; it undermines the fighting spirit of our people.”

Golan participated in the Oct. 7 fighting and assisted in evacuating people from the massacre zone. In an earlier interview with Ben Caspit and Amit Segal, he described how that day’s events transformed him.
