England manager Sarina Wiegman has signed a two-year contract extension, committing to the Lionesses until the end of Euro 2029. The 56-year-old’s previous agreement was set to expire after next summer’s World Cup, but this new deal secures her leadership for the coming years.

Wiegman recently led England to a historic victory in the Euro 2025 final, defeating Spain to claim the team’s second consecutive European Championship title. This achievement marked the first time an England team, men’s or women’s, won a major trophy on foreign soil. Additionally, the win made Wiegman only the second manager, after Germany’s Christina Theune, to win three successive European Championships.

“I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football,” said Wiegman of her decision. “Working for a world-class organisation like The FA, and alongside so many people dedicated to winning England teams and the growth of our game, excites me every day.”

England’s focus now shifts to the World Cup qualifiers, where they thrashed Greece 8-1 on aggregate last week. They are set to face Ukraine in the next round, with a victory securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Brazil. “My main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come,” Wiegman added.

Since taking over from Phil Neville in September 2021, Wiegman has transformed the team, guiding them to the Euro 2022 title and a runners-up finish at the 2023 World Cup. She holds the record for reaching five consecutive major international finals, a testament to her sustained success and influence.

FA chief Mark Bullingham praised Wiegman’s contributions, describing her as an “incredible coach with an unparalleled record in major tournaments.” He emphasized her forward-looking approach: “While we will all remember the trophies and thrilling moments she has given us, I know she is only looking forward. There is no one better to lead the Lionesses into the next two tournaments.”
