RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) in the Riyadh region late on Friday.
Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, confirmed that the hostile drone was “intercepted and destroyed” before it could reach its target.
This latest interception is part of an ongoing series of hostile attempts by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen to strike civilian and strategic targets within Saudi Arabia.
Earlier on Friday, Saudi air defenses successfully neutralized two ballistic missiles targeting the southern province of Najran, and another drone was intercepted over the Makkah region.
The Houthi militia has been persistently targeting critical civilian infrastructure, including airports, energy networks, and Islam’s holiest sites.
