Saudi analyst Mubarak al‑Ati told Russia Today that Saudi Arabia no longer trusts the United States to guarantee its security.
He argued that President Donald Trump’s unwillingness to resume hostilities against Iran will “cost him dearly,” describing the president as a “paper tiger.”
Al‑Ati cited President Joe Biden’s “humiliating exit” from Afghanistan in 2021 as the United States’ first clear sign of declining global influence. “The U.S. remains a superpower, but not as it was a decade ago,” he said.
He noted that shifting power dynamics now give rising nations such as India, Saudi Arabia and Brazil, all G20 members, greater freedom to forge relationships beyond the United States.
The analyst claimed that this reduced U.S. presence has weakened the impact of Trump’s calls for Arab states to join the Abraham Accords.
“Saudi Arabia has avoided being drawn into war and has not aligned itself with either Israel or Iran,” al‑Ati explained. “It has not declared hostility toward any party, viewing itself as an independent actor rather than a satellite of Israel or the U.S.”
He said Saudi Arabia is now leading a new “Arab‑Islamic bloc” with Pakistan, Turkey and Qatar, which he expects to be announced soon.
According to al‑Ati, this bloc has stalled further expansion of the Abraham Accords and is working to reduce Israeli influence in Sudan, South Yemen and Somaliland. “Saudi Arabia will not join the Abraham Accords,” he asserted.
Al‑Ati added that Saudi diplomacy is paving the way for a non‑violent regional settlement.
He envisions an agreement involving Iran, the Gulf states and any interested parties, backed by Islamic and international guarantees.
