A helicopter operated by Saudi Aramco crashed Sunday morning in Ras Tanura on Saudi Arabia’s eastern coast, near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the country’s state news agency.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. local time, several hours before details began to emerge publicly. All 14 people aboard were Saudi nationals, and no survivors were reported.
The crash happened as Saudi Aramco had been restarting operations at the Ras Tanura facility. The company had resumed loadings on Friday for the first time in months, following a period of reduced activity amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran in the region.
What else was said about the crash?
“Investigations are under way, with the participation of relevant authorities, to determine the causes of the helicopter crash,” Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy told the Saudi Press Agency, without providing further details.
Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer and exporter, is majority-owned by the Saudi government.
