RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, convened talks on Tuesday with his Spanish, Italian, and German counterparts to address Houthi‑driven threats to maritime traffic in the Red Sea and to explore ways to reduce broader Middle‑East tensions.
In separate conversations, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and Italian Minister Antonio Tajani denounced Houthi attacks targeting southern Saudi territory, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The ministers highlighted the need to safeguard maritime security in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, and rejected any actions that jeopardize safe navigation.
Prince Faisal also spoke with German MP Johann Wadephul about the security and economic ramifications of the ongoing U.S.–Iran dispute.
On Monday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned a statement by a Houthi military spokesperson claiming a maritime blockade of the Kingdom, accusing the Houthis of drawing Yemen into the wider regional conflict.
The ministry added that Houthi assaults on international commercial vessels in the Red Sea have worsened conditions for the Yemeni people, restricting travel and deteriorating the economy in territories controlled by the armed group.
The Kingdom urged the international community to uphold its duties by implementing relevant UN Security Council resolutions, notably Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on navigation rights and freedoms in the Red Sea.
