Scotland levelled their one-day international series against the Netherlands with a commanding nine-wicket triumph in a rain-shortened fixture at Stirling, evening the contest at 1-1.

Stand-in captain Sarah Bryce, leading the side in the absence of her sister Kathryn, delivered a match-winning unbeaten 70 as the hosts comfortably chased down the revised target of 130 in just 16.2 overs. The match, originally scheduled for Sunday, was reduced to 32 overs per side following earlier weather interruptions.

The Dutch had claimed a 58-run victory in Glasgow on Friday, but the second encounter proved just as one-sided in Scotland’s favour.

Darcy Carter struck early, removing Netherlands openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana, both of whom had starred in last week’s encounter with a partnership exceeding 150.

Abtaha Maqsood soon joined the action, claiming two quick wickets to leave the visitors struggling at 39-4.

Maqsood added a third scalp, but Babette de Leede offered resistance with 58 before falling to a run out. Caroline de Lange contributed 20 as the Netherlands were bowled out for 129-9.

Scotland lost Maryam Faisal within the first over, but Carter (33 not out) combined with Bryce to guide the hosts to a comprehensive victory.

Wicketkeeper Bryce, who also pouched two catches, sealed the win with her eleventh boundary, as the Dutch bowlers struggled with accuracy, conceding 17 wides across the innings.

Despite the heavy defeat, the Netherlands secured a consolation prize: completing the fixture was sufficient to maintain their ODI ranking and prevent a substantial reduction in international funding.

The series decider takes place on Tuesday at the same Stirling venue.
