The director of Slow Horses has officially confirmed production on the upcoming installment of the espionage series and explored the possibility that the eighth season might serve as the show’s conclusion.
Debuting on Apple TV+ in 2022, the series features Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House—a division where MI5 agents who have severely failed their missions are sent without being terminated. The series has proven highly successful for the streaming platform, earning three Emmy Awards throughout its run.
Following the premiere of the sixth season yesterday (September 16) on the platform, which will air six episodes weekly until October 21, Apple TV+ has greenlit both a seventh and eighth season. During a Q&A session at London’s Barbican Centre, attended by NME, series director Adam Randall verified that production on future episodes has already commenced.
“We were filming here [The Barbican] roughly eight weeks ago,” he stated, before addressing whether the eighth season—adapted from the latest novel by Mick Herron—might also be the series’ final chapter.
“First of all, season eight releases in 2028,” he explained. “Essentially, the schedule is already mapped out. We will wrap filming, and it will air two years later. We completed season six a year ago, and it has simply been sitting on the shelf. So we are significantly ahead of schedule. Consequently, there is no urgency.”
He also noted that while Herron could continue writing source novels for the show to adapt, the current trajectory might provide a fitting conclusion. “Season eight would make a great ending,” he remarked. “That is in the back of our minds. If that were the end, it would be a truly satisfying conclusion to Slow Horses, I believe.”
Recently, Oldman commented that he feels the upcoming *Harry Potter* television series will be “more satisfying” than the films in which he previously participated.
