The Senate Health Committee voted on Wednesday to advance President Donald Trump’s nominee for surgeon general, clearing a key hurdle for the candidate.
In a 12-11 party-line vote, Dr. Nicole Saphier, a radiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and former Fox News contributor, advanced to the full Senate floor. This vote marks Trump’s third attempt to fill the role, following previous nominations for Casey Means and Janette Nesheiwat that were either stalled or withdrawn.
