Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, former head of the Senegal branch of the BCEAO regional central bank, as prime minister, according to a statement broadcast on national television RTS on Monday.
President Faye dismissed Ousmane Sonko from his position as prime minister on Friday following months of escalating tensions.
In March, Sonko had threatened to lead his PASTEF party into opposition if the president deviated from the party’s agenda, a threat that now hangs over the government’s efforts to implement reforms required to secure International Monetary Fund support.
