Sergio Perez Honors Venezuela with Helmet Tribute Following Devastating Earthquakes]

Sergio Perez has paid tribute to the victims of Venezuela’s catastrophic twin earthquakes by adding a special sticker to his race helmet at the Austrian Grand Prix. The 7-time Formula 1 race winner placed the emotional homage on his helmet following the devastating seismic events that struck his home nation on the evening of June 24.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes that battered Venezuela have claimed over 1,400 lives, with tens of thousands still reported missing. According to UN records, nearly 1,500 structures have been damaged, more than 3,100 families have been displaced, and authorities have documented over 430 aftershocks in the aftermath.

“Thinking of everyone in Venezuela. Stay strong,” Perez wrote on social media, sharing an image of his helmet featuring the Venezuela tribute at the front.

Pope Leo XIV also expressed solidarity, stating: “I wish to express my solidarity with our Venezuelan brothers and sisters affected by the recent earthquakes… Praying to the Lord for the eternal rest of the deceased, I renew my spiritual solidarity with their families, the injured, and all who have been shaken by this tragedy.”

Perez began the Austrian Grand Prix from 19th position but was forced to retire on lap five after reporting smoke in his cockpit. His Cadillac teammate Valtteri Bottas also retired on the same lap due to brake issues.

The Mexican driver currently ranks 21st in the championship standings with no points.
