LAHORE — A sessions court has dismissed a petition filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) seeking to hold a jail trial for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Falak Javed, who faces allegations of posting anti-state content.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Ali Siddiqui Malik passed the ruling following a hearing of the NCCIA’s petition.
After declining the agency’s bid to relocate the proceedings to a prison facility, the judge scheduled the next hearing date for the ongoing case.
However, the court advised that the agency could submit a formal request to the Punjab home department for the jail trial. The judge also adjourned the main proceedings until September 10.
The NCCIA has previously submitted the challan, or charge sheet, for the case, which was registered following allegations that the PTI activist shared anti-state messages on social media and sought to “incite hate” against leaders of state institutions.
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed under several provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
