Washington Wizards guard Seth Trimble’s college basketball journey took an unexpected turn as he recently committed to Louisville University following a landmark court ruling. This decision brings new excitement to Louisville’s basketball program, which aims to capitalize on the talent it has amassed during the offseason.
Trimble played four years at North Carolina before entering the transfer portal to seek a fifth year of eligibility after a district court judge granted him additional time due to an updated NCAA rule allowing athletes five years of eligibility in a five-year window starting once they enter college.
After spending the summer with the Wizards, Trimble chose to return to college. Despite averaging 10.8 points in 23.3 minutes per game during the NBA Summer League, he opted not to pursue a professional contract. During his time at North Carolina, Trimble had a career-high of 14 points per game and shot 47.1% from the field. He started 18 games for the Tar Heels in the 2024-25 season and all 24 games he appeared in last season. He was also part of the team that made it to the NCAA tournament as a No. 6 seed before being eliminated by Michigan State in the second round.
Louisville’s recent investments in talent are highlighted by Trimble’s commitment. The program boasts the No. 1 transfer portal class in the nation, featuring former Kansas forward Flory Bidunga, among other promising players. Other notable additions include guard Jackson Shelstad, forward Alvaro Folgueiras, guard Karter Knox, and center Gabe Dynes.
The team’s performance last season saw them finish with a 24-11 record, including an 11-7 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference, securing sixth place in the league. With a new coaching staff led by Pat Kelsey, the Cardinals have shown significant improvement, making the NCAA tournament in the past two seasons.
As the Cardinals look to elevate their game, expectations are high. They are poised to finish among the top three teams in the ACC, alongside Duke and Virginia. This season, Louisville aims to capture the Final Four for the first time since 2013, an ambitious goal that reflects the program’s resurgence. With a talented roster and experienced coaching staff, Louisville is well-positioned to become a national contender once again.
