Shakira Austin posted a game‑high 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, guiding the Washington Mystics to a 78‑64 victory over the Seattle Storm on Wednesday.
Michaela Onyenwere contributed 14 points, including three three‑pointers, while Kiki Iriënën added 13 points and nine rebounds. The Mystics improved to 3‑3, snapping a two‑game skid and avenging a 97‑85 loss to Seattle on Sunday.
Jade Melbourne led the Storm with 15 points; the team, now 3‑5, had won two straight games. Mackenzie Holmes added eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Mystics shot 42.4% from the field (28‑of‑66) and 33.3% from three‑point range (7‑of‑21). In contrast, the Storm managed only 34.9% shooting (22‑of‑63) and 21.7% from beyond the arc (5‑of‑23).
The Mystics built a lead that peaked at 24 points, reaching 74‑49 with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter.
Washington opened the scoring with five unanswered points and never trailed.
Onyenwere drained two three‑pointers and a jumper in the first 1:53, sparking a 10‑1 start. The advantage grew to 23‑9 before the Storm rallied with a 9‑0 run.
The Mystics held a 28‑20 lead after the first quarter as Onyenwere and Austin combined for 21 points.
The Storm pulled within six points early in the second before the Mystics answered with a 16‑3 run, entering halftime ahead 48‑29.
Seattle scored the first eight points of the second half, but the Mystics were up 66‑45 after three quarters.
Rookie centers Awa Fam of Seattle and Lauren Betts of Washington, the Nos. 3 and 4 picks in this spring’s WNBA draft, respectively, played to a virtual stalemate. Both came off the bench, with Fam recording six points and five rebounds in 17:15, and Betts contributing six points and three rebounds in 11:16.
The Storm played without center Dominique Malonga (concussion) and forward Ezi Magbegor (foot).
