Shakur Stevenson continues to pursue a light welterweight unification showdown with Gary Antuanne Russell, noting that both sides express interest and have been in talks since his public callout, though no deal or date has been set.
Beyond social media, Stevenson has followed up via phone, urging his representatives to finalize the bout. Each camp remains confident in its fighter’s chances, leaving the sticking point as agreeing on terms.
“Gary a real one I been on the phone with bro since the day I called Antuanne out on twitter trying to make this fight happen,” Stevenson wrote on X. “We both want the fight so hopefully it can get done! He say Tweezy gone beat me and I feel I’m gone beat him.. Let’s get it together boxing business ”
Stevenson appears to be referencing discussions with Gary Russell Sr., who backs his brother Antuanne. Stevenson remains confident in his own abilities and has not wavered in his desire for the matchup.
There’s no indication that Russell is avoiding the fight; if both parties are engaged and eager, the obstacle lies in reaching mutually acceptable terms. Stevenson’s post does not disclose financial details or how close they are to signing.
Some fans would prefer to see Stevenson take on Raymond Muratalla, the WBO’s No. 1 contender at 140 pounds, whose pressure and power could pose a stern test. To succeed, Stevenson would need to neutralize Muratalla’s offense while evading his heavy counters.
Although Russell presents a genuine threat, Stevenson’s persistence is unlikely to sway those who favor Muratalla. Stevenson’s priority remains Russell; until terms are settled and a date announced, the bout stays a pursuit rather than a certainty.
