Shubman Gill’s Captaincy Mastery Wins Shah Rukh Khan’s Praise

Shah Rukh Khan, a teammate of Shubman Gill at Gujarat Titans, has highlighted the player’s ascent from franchise captain to national leader. Gill assumed the Titans’ captaincy in 2024 after Hardik Pandya’s departure, and his leadership soon expanded to the international stage when he was appointed India’s Test captain for the 2025 England tour, succeeding Rohit Sharma in the longest format. His progression has been closely watched by fellow players.

In conversation, Shah Rukh Khan lavished praise on Gill’s captaincy, citing his calm demeanor and tactical acumen as key assets. He observed that Gill’s disciplined approach to batting informs his on‑field decisions, providing a solid foundation for strategic play.

“Shubman is a very calm and collected player. He prepares so meticulously for his batting, and that resonates with his captaincy as well. He’s got plans and so many options in his head to rotate the bowlers and set fields,” Shahrukh told RevSportz in an interview.

“He started off as a captain for GT and then went on to captain the Test side for the country. His growth from the IPL to the international level has been a tremendous sign,” he added.

Subsequently, Gill took over the ODI captaincy, again stepping into Rohit Sharma’s former role. The Punjab batsman is expected to be pivotal to India’s ambitions at the 2027 ODI World Cup, co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
