Siemens Energy Secures Major Contract for Taweelah C Power Plant Turbine Supply
Siemens Energy has been selected to supply gas and steam turbine technology for the 2.6GW Taweelah C Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The order includes three gas turbines, two steam turbines, five generators, and associated auxiliary systems for the combined cycle facility.
This marks the third power plant at the Taweelah site to be equipped by Siemens Energy.
The new facility aims to enhance grid flexibility, ensure stability, and support the integration of renewable energy into Abu Dhabi’s power infrastructure.
The plant is designed to potentially incorporate future carbon capture and storage systems, aligning with the UAE’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
Project development is led by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company and Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries.
Engineering, procurement, and construction will be handled by the China Energy Engineering Group.
Upon completion, electricity generated will be procured by the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.
Components for the power station will be manufactured at Siemens Energy’s global facilities.
The SGT5-9000HL gas turbines and SST5-5000 steam turbines will be produced in Berlin and Muelheim, Germany, while the SGen5-3000W and SGen5-2000P generators are to be assembled at the company’s Charlotte facility in the US.

Last month, Siemens Energy signed an agreement with Mai-Liao Power to provide major equipment and long-term services for a 2.4GW gas-fired combined cycle power facility in Taiwan.
