To counter a declining birth rate, Singapore has launched a pilot government‑directed dating service this month.
The application, named FirstDate, is presently available exclusively to civil servants aged 21‑35. Leveraging the Nobel‑recognised Gale‑Shapley algorithm—a technique celebrated for its fair allocation of matches—it pairs participants individually on a cyclical basis. Users receive a single compatible partner per iteration, whereas mainstream platforms such as Tinder or Hinge present endless options and feature a “compatibility score” derived from the same underlying methodology.
