PARIS, France – World number one Jannik Sinner delivered a decisive performance in his opening match at the French Open, defeating French wildcard Clement Tabur 6‑1, 6‑3, 6‑4 in just over two hours. The 24‑year‑old chalked up his 30th consecutive win, underscoring his focus on extending the streak as he pursues a career Grand Slam.
After securing victories at all three clay‑court Masters 1000 tournaments leading up to Roland Garros, Sinner appears to have mastered the red‑dirt surface.
The match was relatively brief, with Sinner’s rapid ascent on the court and powerful groundstrokes leaving the home crowd in awe. Although Tabur showed resilience, the Italian’s consistency and precision sealed the victory, allowing him to advance to the second round where he will face Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
“I’m very happy to be back here; it’s a very special place,” Sinner remarked. “First‑round matches are never easier, but it’s even more special to start the tournament in a night session.”
Sinner’s calm return to Court Philippe Chatrier follows last year’s memorable five‑set final, in which he narrowly missed the title after losing three championship points. The Italian’s composure on his return to the venue further emphasizes his determination to capture the Coupe des Mousquetaires at the men’s final on June 7.
