BANNU: Authorities successfully defused six improvised explosive devices and detained 14 suspects during a coordinated search and combing operation across various areas of Bannu’s Miryan tehsil.
The operation involved personnel from the police, Elite Force, Quick Response Force, Bomb Disposal Unit, and Counter-Terrorism Department, according to a police press release.
During the action, authorities also seized two Kalashnikov rifles, a pump-action shotgun, four additional rifles, an ammunition cache, and eight motorcycles.
The Bomb Disposal Unit experts neutralized six IEDs containing a total of 120kg of explosives in the Mambati Barakzai and Khanikhel areas.
Residents were advised to remain indoors due to ongoing security operations. To mitigate hardships caused by restricted movement, authorities arranged ration packages for approximately 600 affected families, to be distributed once security conditions stabilize.
Key roads including Bannu Police Lines Road, Predy Gate Road, and Miranshah Road remain closed, disrupting daily activities. While some markets operate partially, business activities are significantly hampered by security concerns and connectivity issues. Internet and mobile phone services have been suspended, affecting communication, education, and commercial operations.
