Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton will headline America’s Block Party at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4th as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hosted by Queen Latifah, the event is organized by America250, a nonpartisan entity established in 2016 under Congress’ United States Semiquincentennial Commission, which oversees the country’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Tickets are priced at $17.76, with proceeds after fees supporting Feeding America through America250’s new Giving 4th initiative. Five thousand tickets will be reserved for first responders, veterans, and service members. Sales begin Tuesday, June 16 at 10 a.m. PT.
The Los Angeles event connects to a nationwide series, with additional America’s Block Party locations at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Fort Campbell Festival in Kentucky, SC250 Charleston, and upcoming events in Boston and Philadelphia.
“Los Angeles knows how to put on a show, and hosting America’s Block Party at the LA Coliseum is going to be something special,” Queen Latifah said. “This is a chance to celebrate a once-in-a-generation milestone with great music, real energy, and a purpose that reaches far beyond the stadium.”
Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin added, “Playing the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4 for America’s 250th is a rare kind of moment. We’ve always believed in the power of music to be a unifying principle. It brings people together and allows them to express themselves in a forum that has a common destination — and it allows all of us the opportunity to participate in a celebration that has meaning, history, and impact.”
America’s Block Party announcement comes as America250 follows up on the cancellation of the separately organized Freedom 250 concert series, which former President Trump scrapped in favor of a rally. The Freedom 250 series unraveled after artists including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, the Time, the Commodores, and Young MC exited, citing concerns over transparency regarding its nonpartisan status.
