The Smashing Pumpkins’ landmark double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness turned 30 last year, yet the band only now marks the milestone with a new arena trek. Earlier this year they unveiled the Rats In A Cage Tour, promising “two distinct sets honoring Mellon Collie at 30, plus almost four decades of ferocious hits and deep‑cut rarities.” The tour launched in Columbus last night, giving fans a first glimpse of that vision.

Last night the Smashing Pumpkins took the stage at Columbus’ Value City Arena without an opening act, delivering a sprawling 32‑song set packed with live rarities and a handful of debuts. In the first half, they ran through 16 of the 28 tracks from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, reviving numbers such as “Cupid De Locke,” “Fuck You (An Ode to No One)” and the soaring “Galapogos”—songs that haven’t appeared in their setlist for close to 20 years.

The second set spanned the band’s catalog, moving from beloved Siamese Dream anthems to deeper‑cut later‑era tracks. Along the way they premiered the ultra‑early demo “Jesus Is The Sun,” a song never before performed live. The production featured striking lighting and elaborate stage costumes.
