The president’s closing message is leaving one administration official jealous, Colin Jost jokes
Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update targeted two of Donald Trump’s final midterm pitches: urging Republicans to act as if he were on the ballot and an apparent fixation on Ohio Senator Jon Husted’s backside.
“President Trump continues to campaign for Republicans ahead of the midterms with the message, ‘Just close your eyes and pretend I’m on the ballot,’” co‑anchor Colin Jost began.
“Said one voter, ‘You had me at ‘close your eyes and pretend,’” Jost added, as a image of Melania Trump appeared on screen.
Jost also poked fun at Trump’s “laser‑focused” attention on Husted’s butt. After airing several rally clips in which the president described how he has “examined” it, Jost noted who feels left out: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“He’s out here doing televised workouts to get Trump’s attention—zero compliments on his body!” he said. “Even Vice President JD Vance came out and said he was jealous that President Trump has never complimented his butt. What the hell is going on?! Your party is about to lose the midterms. Stop playing ‘smash or pass’ with each other.”
Jost kept up the theme, noting Trump’s recent remark that his frequent rallies are tough on his vocal cords, telling reporters, “God didn’t make vocal cords to do a rally every day.”
“In fact,” Jost said, “the only thing God made to never quit was Jon Husted’s ass.”
