India’s activist Sonam Wangchuk has concluded a 26‑day hunger strike in solidarity with youth‑led demonstrators advocating education reform.
In a post on X, Wangchuk — widely known as “Sonam sir” — stated that he ended the fast after “a lengthy negotiation on several conditions” and to prevent “possible violence in the country.”
Wangchuk, 59, launched the strike in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose members also call for the resignation of India’s education minister.
The activist previously reported losing 11 kg (24 lb) but affirmed he remained “still alive.” He was forcibly removed from a protest site in Delhi last Saturday and taken to a hospital.
