Sophie Ecclestone has become England Women’s all‑time leading wicket‑taker across formats during the historic Lord’s Test against India on Friday, July 10.
In the first innings she was the standout bowler, claiming 3 for 68 to restrict India to 285 on Day 1—the inaugural Women’s Test held at the iconic London venue. This performance saw the 27‑year‑old overtake former fast bowler Katherine Sciver‑Brunt to top England’s wicket‑taking list.
Having debuted internationally in July 2016, Ecclestone needed just a single wicket to surpass Sciver‑Brunt, who was recently appointed an OBE for her services to cricket. She secured that wicket by dismissing Sayali Satghare late in the innings, then added two more to finish the Indian innings.
Her current tally stands at 43 Test wickets, 141 in ODIs and 154 in T20Is. At present she leads England in T20I wickets, though she remains 29 behind Sciver‑Brunt in the ODI column, placing her second.
Ecclestone has been one of England’s premier bowlers for several years. During the recent 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup she claimed 10 wickets at an economy of 6.00, helping the Lionesses finish as runners‑up after losing the final to Australia at Lord’s.
Despite the dwindling number of Women’s Test matches, Ecclestone has joined an elite group. She is now the second‑youngest woman bowler to record a 10‑wicket haul in a Test, achieving 10 for 192 against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, in 2023 at the age of 24 years and 47 days.
