A South Korean manufacturing company owner who severely injured a migrant worker by firing high-pressure air from an industrial air gun has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Judge Koo Na-young of the Suwon district court handed down the sentence on Thursday, convicting the metal-cleaning company owner, a man in his 60s identified only as A, on charges of aggravated bodily injury and violations of the Labour Standards Act. The court dropped charges against A’s wife, identified as B, who had been accused of intimidation.
A was charged with pressing the nozzle of an industrial air gun against the anal area of C, a Thai national in his 40s, and firing high-pressure air for approximately seven seconds at his factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province, on February 20.
C sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic rectal perforation exceeding 10cm (three inches), and required surgical intervention.
