China’s durian imports increased by 47% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, with Thailand and Malaysia driving the growth amid a surplus exerting downward pressure on prices, per customs data.
Thailand maintained a dominant 81% market share for the period, exporting US$3.79 billion worth of durians to China. This marked a significant rise from US$2.56 billion in the same period of 2025.
Vietnam followed with US$846 million in shipments, accounting for 18% of total imports. However, the country faces challenges related to inconsistent quality control.
Malaysia, a newer participant in China’s fresh durian market, saw a 342% surge in exports during the first half of 2026, contributing US$30.26 million to the total volume.
Overall, imports from all sources reached 1.07 million tonnes in the first half of 2026, compared to 708,000 tonnes in 2025.
