French police have detained a 14-year-old pupil suspected of involvement in a rare school shooting that wounded the principal and a staff member.
The Bouches-du-Rhône police department in southern France stated that the suspect’s motive remained unknown. The teenager, taken into custody on Monday, was found in possession of a firearm. Both injured staff members were struck by 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.
It is yet unclear whether the incident is linked to the ongoing high school protest movement that has gripped France for several weeks. Police confirmed the shooting took place outside a middle school that was not affected by the demonstrations on Monday.
