[Title]SpaceX Starlink Bandwidth Cuts Threaten Ukrainian Military Communications and Strike Capabilities
Speed restrictions on the key Starlink communications network have disrupted Ukraine’s battlefield “missions”, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser has warned.
Serhiy Beskrestnov stated that Ukrainian troops had not been informed about the speed limits set overnight at 100mph (160km/h) by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, according to a source in the Ukrainian defence ministry who confirmed this report to the BBC.
Starlink serves as a critical platform enabling Kyiv to direct drones against Russian targets and maintain air superiority over Ukrainian territories. SpaceX has declined to issue a public statement.
This challenge arrives as at least 600,000 Ukrainians lost electricity following lethal Russian missile and drone strikes over the night, as Zelensky reported.
He emphasized that “critical” energy infrastructure suffered damage in Kyiv and the capital region, as well as in the northeastern city of Kharkiv—despite the claim made by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday that an “energy ceasefire” existed between Russia and Ukraine.
Three individuals were killed in Kyiv, according to local officials, while Russia accused its “massive” strikes targeting communications and energy facilities utilized by Ukraine’s armed forces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and Moscow presently holds control of roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory.
In Wednesday’s Telegram update, Beskrestnov noted that SpaceX had “implemented overnight a speed limit on Starlink terminals,” which had already led to the disruption of multiple operational missions.
“It is clear that this action cannot be a coincidence and is linked to the current political situation,” he further observed.
Following this, Zelensky’s adviser stressed that Starlink remains the most effective technology for facilitating interception systems designed to neutralize Russia’s recently developed jet-propelled aerial drones.
