SpaceX Shares Reach Near-IPO Valuations Amid Major Shareowner Unlock
SpaceX shares retest near-initial-public-offering levels as a significant chunk of employee-held stock becomes tradable for the first time.
Approximately 319 million shares released from long-standing restrictions—part of the day 70 tranche in SpaceX’s comprehensive capitalization freeze—now enter the public market.
The sale contributed to a sharp decline Friday, pushing the price down nearly five percent and leaving the ticker below its $135 initial offering threshold.
Earlier today, another wave of releases—around 911.5 million shares from the previous day-70 allocation—bought over the bell, delivering a six percent surge and demonstrating the market’s appetite when liquidity improves.
Looking ahead, additional blocks of shares are slated to unwind. A second 1.3 billion-share release is expected ahead of SpaceX’s third-quarter earnings report in November, followed by a standard fourteen-month vesting window in December.
Executive Elon Musk retains significant holdings—approximately 6.42 billion shares—that remain capped under an exercise date extending through June 2027.
