The Scottish indie-pop collective Spook School reunited in 2024 after their 2019 breakup to release their fifth studio album, Like A Heartbeat. The record’s lead single, “Falling,” debuted today.
“We really wanted to make sure we came back feeling urgent and energized,” says Nye Todd. “We didn’t want people to listen and think ‘oh they’ve had a break, they’re a bit older, mellower and chilled out now.’ We wanted to go 100mph and get stuck into people’s ears.”
The new material draws inspiration from Radiohead, the Beths, Alvvays, Swearin’, and Bad Moves. Recorded with Rod Jones of Idlewild at his Post Electric Studio in Leith, Edinburgh, Like A Heartbeat captures the band’s renewed focus. Stream “Falling” below.
