The legendary band Squeeze has cancelled a highly anticipated show in Virginia and shared a heartfelt statement following the sudden and tragic death of a crew member.

The band was scheduled to perform in Vienna, Virginia, on Thursday, September 3, as part of their ongoing US tour alongside Adam Ant and Haircut 100.

In an official statement, Squeeze confirmed that the concert was called off just hours before the venue doors were set to open at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, following a tragic workplace accident that claimed the life of a crew member.

“Squeeze is deeply saddened and shocked by the incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, resulting in the tragic loss of a life,” the band shared on their official social media channels.

“Following discussions with the venue and relevant local authorities, the difficult decision was made to cancel this evening’s performance out of respect for the victim and their family.”

The band continued, “We will work closely with the promoter and venue to explore the possibility of rescheduling the show and will provide further updates to ticket holders as soon as information is available. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.”

According to local news outlet Fox 5, the tragic incident involved a member of the road crew who was fatally crushed in the venue’s parking lot after the tour bus he was working on collapsed on top of him. Police reported that the accident was caused by a malfunction in the apparatus holding the vehicle.

The identity of the deceased crew member has not yet been publicly released as of the initial reports.

A spokesperson for Wolf Trap National Park also released a statement, saying, “There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life. Out of respect, tonight’s show has been cancelled.”

Despite this tragedy, the band’s tour is set to resume in Ohio on Friday, September 4, with subsequent stops scheduled across Illinois, Colorado, Utah, California, and other locations throughout the remainder of the month.

Looking ahead to the end of the year, Squeeze is scheduled to tour the UK alongside Billy Bragg in November and December. The UK leg of the tour will commence at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and includes a major performance at The O2 in London on November 26.
