Although the NHL season has barely begun, Stanley Cup odds at the BetMGM sportsbook have already shifted across several teams.
Some of these changes date back to when odds opened during the offseason, while others have moved since the regular season tipped off.
Here are four teams whose odds have moved, as of Oct. 7.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers’ Stanley Cup odds opened at +1100 but have fallen to +700 — tied for the shortest in the league. This comes despite losing captain Aleksander Barkov and potentially Brad Marchand to knee injuries.
Despite those absences, Florida is 2-0-2 to start the season.
The next few weeks will be critical in determining whether the Panthers can lead the Atlantic Division. A key variable will be Brady Tkachuk, acquired in the offseason to play alongside his brother Matthew, who is still searching for his first point in a Panthers uniform.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto opened at +6000 to win the Cup, improved to +3000 at the start of the season following the Kirill Marchenko trade, and are now at +2800 after rookie Gavin McKenna recorded his first goal and first assist.
But it’s too early to plan any parades. The Leafs, who went 2-2-0 at home, head into their first road trip with stops in Vegas, Colorado, and Utah — a daunting stretch.
Washington Capitals
Washington opened at +5000 following the Stanley Cup final and are now at +1600.
The improvement reflects an aggressive offseason that brought in Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner, and Vincent Desharnais. Adding to the buzz, longtime captain Alex Ovechkin announced this season will be his final NHL campaign, raising the possibility of a farewell Stanley Cup run.
New York Rangers
New York opened at +8000 and have eased to +6600 after a strong start.
The Rangers are among the hottest teams in the league at 4-1. Defense and goaltending have been pivotal, allowing just five goals over their last four games. Alexis Lafreniere has also stepped up, recording his first career hat trick in a 5-2 win over the Islanders — validating his No. 1 overall selection in 2020.
