Starz Partners with Channel 4 on Bella Ramsey’s ‘Maya,’ a Mother-Daughter Thriller]
Starz is expanding its portfolio of British dramas by co-producing Channel 4’s upcoming six-part thriller Maya, starring Bella Ramsey from The Last of Us and Tobias Menzies of Outlander fame.
The series is created by and stars Daisy Haggard, who also directs and writes. Maya follows a mother and daughter who enter witness protection after a dangerous threat forces them to leave London. They assume new identities in a rural town, but their past trauma continues to haunt them as two hitmen hunt them. The story escalates when it becomes clear their former life remains a deadly threat.
Principal photography concluded in Scotland last December. Starz, which will distribute the series in the U.S. and Canada, joined the project earlier this year. The show is produced by Two Brothers (known for Fleabag) with All3Media International brokering the deal. Haggard serves as creator, writer, co-director, and executive producer alongside Harry and Jack Williams, Sarah Hammond, Alex Mercer, and Daisy Mount.
This addition to Starz’s roster includes recent acquisitions such as BBC’s The Listeners, Sky’s Amadeus, and Channel 4’s Tip Toe. The network also recently announced a commitment to Sony Pictures Television’s Exiles, a S.W.A.T. spinoff.
