Steelers Terminate Derius Swinton II Amid Workplace Misconduct Investigation]

The Pittsburgh Steelers have dismissed seniors special-teams assistant Derius Swinton II following an investigation into workplace misconduct, according to multiple reports.

ESPN initially reported Friday morning that Swinton had violated team policy, with additional details later confirming the reason for his termination. The specific nature of the alleged misconduct has not been publicly disclosed.

Swinton, 41, brings extensive NFL experience, having worked with the Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears (twice), San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders. He served as the Chargers’ special-teams coordinator in 2021 and finished the 2025 season as the Raiders’ interim special-teams coordinator.

Swinton was originally hired as part of coach Mike McCarthy’s initial staff with the Steelers. Danny Crossman currently holds the position of special-teams coordinator for the team.
