[S&P 500 Slumps as Oil Normalizes and Treasury Yields Dip]

Happy Tuesday. Stocks fell Monday as technology shares eroded early gains while rising Treasury yields added downward pressure on equities.

Markets closed lower on Wednesday as soaring crude oil prices and climbing Treasury yields reignited concerns over inflation and borrowing costs after the United States rejected Iran’s terms for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Treasury yields softened on Tuesday after reaching fresh highs earlier in the session, amid persistent worries about inflationary pressures. Crude oil prices continued to decline.

U.S. and Iranian officials engaged in separate indirect discussions with mediators on Monday, Reuters reported.

“Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who remained in New York after attending the United Nations General Assembly, stated that Tehran is awaiting the U.S. response to its latest cease‑fire proposals and its conditions for restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the state news agency IRAH.”
