The death toll from a drone strike on a market in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan has risen to 153, with local authorities warning the number could be higher. The attack, which involved multiple munitions, was attributed to the Sudanese army. In analysis, Jan Pospisil, a Sudan Affairs Analyst at the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform, noted that the Sudanese army has long sought to portray itself as humane in contrast to the RSF’s actions. However, he emphasized that this incident reveals no significant difference between the two factions in their disregard for human life.
