Supreme Court Halts High Court Relief for PTI Amid Ongoing Administrative Drama
In a recent development, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court has temporarily paused its order that provided interim relief to the PTI regarding its registration dispute with the Election Commission. This decision is set to remain in effect until July 2.
The ruling was delivered by a three-member panel chaired by senior puisne justice Syed Shahid Bahar, with Justices Sardar Muhammad Ejaz and Khalid Rasheed Chaudhry joining the bench. The move follows a May 16 directive from the Election Commission to preliminarily register PTI as a political party, prompting the suspension of its May 16 ruling due to procedural irregularities.
PTI representatives expressed concerns over the administrative handling of their application and sought continued relief during the interim appeal period. The court’s directive emphasized the importance of evaluating procedural fairness while balancing the interests of all stakeholders.
Meanwhile, election authorities underscored their commitment to reviewing the case promptly, ensuring due process remains intact despite the evolving circumstances.
