India’s Supreme Court on Monday called for accountability regarding a recent wave of rape cases in the national capital and surrounding districts, stating the incidents exposed a failure of law enforcement, local media reported.
Hundreds of students demonstrated in Delhi last week, demanding enhanced safety for women following reports that a teenager was gang-raped by three men at a city park.
Mostly female protesters marched near the scene, holding placards and chanting slogans.
Some placards bore the message “Our body is our own,” while others called for the right to move freely at night without fear.
