Svechnikov and Aho Lead Hurricanes to 4-2 Victory Over Golden Knights, Closing in on Stanley Cup

Andrei Svechnikov notched a pair of goals while Sebastian Aho contributed a second-period strike, propelling the Hurricanes to a 4-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. This victory placed Carolina within a single game of hoisting their first Stanley Cup since 2006.

Jordan Staal, the Hurricanes’ captain, marked his fifth series goal, highlighting the team’s resilience amid challenges such as a struggling power play and a second-period reversal earlier in the playoff series.

For Aho and Svechnikov, this breakthrough represented a return to offensive form after a prolonged slump during the postseason.

Svechnikov’s power-play tally midway through the third period sealed a 4-1 lead, a run that held firm thanks to Brandon Bussi’s 22 saves in his second-career playoff start.

With a 3-2 series lead, the Hurricanes now head to Game 6 in Las Vegas on Sunday, aiming to secure the Stanley Cup for the first time since Rod Brind’Amour’s 2006 championship run.

Vegas forward Pavel Dorofeyev scored twice, matching his first goals since Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against Colorado. Goaltender Carter Hart, despite surrendering four or more goals in each of the first four games, added 20 saves in his recent outing.

Vegas suffered a setback when center William Karlsson exited the game midway through the second period due to an upper-body injury, though the team managed to keep the game close before Carolina’s late push.
